I know this is why many folks can't stand Garrison Keillor, but I enjoy his radio show, his fiction, and even his editorials...and, from my point of view, his take on the mistake in Iraq is on target.
You wonder, however, what this earnest bunch can do when things are so far out of whack as they are in Iraq. The gangland-style execution of Saddam Hussein was visible reality, a token of the bloodlust and violence that swirls around Iraq, where our forces are mired, sitting targets, aliens, fighting a colonial war in behalf of a Shiite majority that is as despotic and cruel as what came before except messier.

re: Its time for the decider to bring the troops home
Well, here is an example of why alot of people dislike him. He doesn't even know what a "gangland style" execution is. Believe me, it is not hanging. Hussein was executed according to Iraqi law. Why would he deserve anything else. He was a mass murderer who murdered hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. The wages of sin is death. Justice was served.

The issue here isn't that he wasn't a bad guy who shouldn't have been executed (though, of course, many people are opposed to the death penalty under any circumstance and so would be opposed in this circumstance too), but the way he was executed...rushed appeal process, taunted by thugs chanting Muqtada, etc. I think "gangland style" is a colorful comparison indicating that it did not meet normal standards for the practice of executions. For example, read the column by Christopher Hitchens, an ardent supporter of removing Hussein from power.
