It's a credit to George Will that even in an op-ed arguing that the Supreme Court should declare the individual mandate unconstitutional, Will concludes that they almost certainly won't. As he says, the point of the challenge is to "defy a pernicious idea and clarify conservatism," which is different than overturning the law.

Congressional inaction isn't an option

We've literally never had a deficit problem this large before. And it's not the fault of the stimulus or the bailout — both of which were short-term costs that account for about 3 or 4 percent of the long-term deficit — or even any particular policy. It's mainly health-care costs — in the private and public sectors — with an assist from demographic changes. But however you slice it, it's going to require some really tough decisions from a Congress that shows no capacity for making such tough decisions. Inaction isn't an option unless you're comfortable with crisis being the outcome.

It's common to hear that gay marriage threatens traditional marriage. But Nate Silver runs the numbers and finds just the opposite. Since 2003, states that haven't banned gay marriage have seen an 8 percent drop in divorce rates. States that have passed gay-marriage bans, by contrast, have seen their divorce rates edge upwards. Does this prove causation? No. Does it prove that opponents of gay marriage rely on some ridiculous arguments? Yes.

Australian researchers find that each hour a day spent in front of television is linked with an 18% greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and an 11% greater risk of all causes of death.  Watching television for hour upon hour obviously isn't the best way to spend leisure time -- inactivity has been linked to obesity and heart disease. But a new study quantifies TV viewing's effect on risk of death.
